Pertussis Health Bulletin

February 2011

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Whooping cough (pertussis) was widespread in California during 2010 and as a result Assembly Bill 354 was chaptered into California law. This new immunization requirement is intended to help reduce the spread of whooping cough/pertussis disease among California youth.

  • This coming school year (2011-2012), all students entering into 7th through 12th grades will need proof of an adolescent whooping cough (pertussis) booster shot- called the Tdap vaccine, before starting school.

  • Please contact your health care provider or the Marin County Health Department (415-473-4400) to make an appointment for your child to receive the Tdap booster vaccine before school starts in the fall. Bring your child’s updated vaccine record to the school office as soon as he/she receives the Tdap vaccine so we can update his/her school health records.

Please contact me if you have any questions,

Laurel Yrun, RN, School Nurse
