Our Mother and One of a
Kind… Our mom was born in Wisconsin and she is the youngest of five children. Her family moved a lot and she went to eight different schools by the time she graduated from Novato High School. She and our dad, Alan got married on Mt Tam in 1984. Before we were born Mom was a Special Education instructor in ceramics, gardening and weaving. When Harlan was one year old, she went back to school at Sonoma State University to get a degree in Environmental Studies. She did her student teaching at Brookside Upper when she was pregnant with Melanie. When we were little she was a science and math teacher, a nature guide, and she volunteered to teach weekly science lessons in our classes. She started teaching full time at Manor when Melanie was in Mrs. T-L’s second grade class. She loves every living thing from newts to redwood trees, from steelhead trout to wildflowers, from raccoons to children. Her hobbies are clogging, genealogy, writing poetry, traveling and environmental action. She loves walking our beagles, Sparky and Peach, at Sam P. Taylor State Park.
