Head of Music Department

General Music grades K-2

 Pete was born and raised in Long Beach, CA as the 11th of 16 children. He earned his Bachelor of Music at CSU Long Beach, and his Master of Music Education at the University of South Carolina, with a focus on early childhood music. Additionally, he completed several years of specialized training in the Music Learning Theory of Edwin Gordon, and completed three levels of training in the Orff Shulwerk approach to teaching music and movement for children. Besides performing with the local music group Tandamanzi Rhythm Ensemble, and directing the Pirate Hill African Drum Ensemble, Pete enjoys reading, hiking, biking, surfing, kayaking and following NFL and college football. Pete is ecstatic about once again teaching his favorite age group: kindergarten, first and second grade!

 

Erika Batten

Brass Teacher Grade 5

 

Erika grew up in Danville, CA and just recently moved to the North Bay. She received a BA in Music from Colgate University with a focus in trombone performance, and was able to spend a semester in Italy studying art and music and teaching herself to cook. She received her Master's in Music Education from the University of the Pacific, where she assisted with research relating to effective practice and the use of technology in music learning, and played in the jazz ensemble. She loves working with beginning brass players, and can't wait to meet all the students, families, and teachers in the Ross Valley community!

General Music and Choir grades 2-8

 

Kristen Koenig was raised in Lucas Valley. She has a BA in ethnomusicology from UC Santa Barabara, a Master's in Secondary Education from San Francisco State, and  Orff certification. She has performed with the Balinese music ensemble Gamelan Sekar Jaya. Recently she composed and performed a song for an 80 piece choir and accompanied the group on her Native American Flute. She has recorded on two meditation CDs. Teaching music is her passion and has joyfully experienced 11 years of this career.  Kristen enjoys teaching, singing, dancing and playing instruments with all the 2nd-8th graders in her program. In her free time, Kristen loves to hike, read, sail, and spend time with her loving partner and their 5 year old son.

 

 

Radhika Miller

5th grade woodwinds teacher 

K-1 General Music at Wade Thomas

 

Radhika is an internationally known flutist and composer with 12 CD's released on her own label www.radhikamiller.com and150 songs on itunes.
She studied choral music, composition and flute at SFSU, and with Jean Pierre Rampal in France.
Former soprano with the SF Symphony Chorus, Founder and Artistic Director of YOUNG IMAGINATIONS, winner of the Parents’ Choice Best Children’s Album award for her “Laughing Waters” CD.
She offers week long Summer Performing Arts Camps in her Fairfax home and the popular Holiday Music and Dance where 4-11 year olds perform a colorful pageant at the Fairfax Community Church.
She loves sharing her training in dance, theater, all genres of music, foreign languages and yoga.
Radhika grew up in foggy SF, the 5th of 9 and lives atop a sunny Fairfax hill where she loves gardening, hiking, and hanging the laundry with her husband and 2 children.
