District: Maintenance & Operations: Solar Power

RVSD Green Energy

As part of the 1999 facilities modernization project, solar power production system were installed at various location throughout the Ross Valley School District. These systems generate power and offset, if not completely negate the amount of energy we must purchase.

The systems were paid for by contributions from the bond fund and grants from PG&E. The systems are designed to produce electricity in a quantity as near the demand as possible, as the ultimate goal is to negate the need to purchase energy from the utilities. To this end, the  system design at each site took into account many factors including; the amount of sun versus shade, the amount of electricity needed, the structural capacity of the site to support panels, etc.

Included with the installation of the systems is a capability to monitor their performance. These monitoring systems measure the amount of electricity being generated by the solar system and the amount of energy being taken from or sent to the utility. From these values the following charts are produced.
