The Manor School Library is open every day from 8:00 to 3:30. (Wednesdays 2:30) Our library has over 12,000 books, and offers students of every reading level many choices for pleasure and research reading. All classes have a scheduled library time each week, starting off with a read-aloud. Kindergarteners and first graders learn library etiquette with Shelf Elf, and choose a book to check out. Older grades learn library skills, as well as having computer time with their teacher in the computer lab. Students may also visit the library at all recesses. Third, fourth, and fifth graders may use the computer lab during morning and lunch recess. Parents can check out books, too. Just stop in and set up an account.

The YES Foundation has budgeted money to buy new materials for the library every year, which keeps the collection fresh, and the kids excited about books.

The library also sponsors various programs and reading incentives, including voting for the California Young Reader Medal, a Mock Caldecott Medal in January, Author Day, Birthday Books, Harry Potter Jeopardy, What Are You Reading Blog, and this year’s Reading Dragon. Follow the links to learn more about these fun activities.

LibraryAnne has been working as library specialist at Manor since 2003. She has the BEST job at the school. Getting kids excited about reading is great fun. Before working at Manor, Anne was a parent at Manor for six years, so the school is really a second home. Anne has had various other careers before this one, including film production, flight attendant, teaching, and the Peace Corps, in Cameroun, Africa. She received her degree at the University of Illinois, in French and Secondary Education.
