Reading Instruction

The Ross Valley School District is dedicated to helping every child become a confident reader and writer. Our new K–5 English language arts program, EL Education, is grounded in Science of Reading research and provides students with strong foundational skills. Through whole-group, small-group, and individualized instruction, students engage with diverse, knowledge-rich texts that broaden perspectives and inspire a love of reading.
In our literacy classrooms, students:
-
Receive targeted support based on data to ensure instruction meets their individual needs.
-
Build strong foundations in reading and writing, with writing intentionally integrated into reading instruction.
-
Develop critical thinking and comprehension skills through a knowledge-based curriculum.
-
Experience the joy of reading in a program that balances skill-building with authentic, meaningful texts.
Together, these practices ensure that every child gains the tools and confidence needed to thrive as a reader, writer, and lifelong learner.
