Welcome to Hidden Valley School! Our campus is nestled in the Sleepy Hollow neighborhood, backing to Open Space with a wide open field and views of Mt. Tamalpais. The spacious natural beauty of our campus invites our community of learners into a world of natural curiosity while developing skills, deepening knowledge, and discovering potential.
At Hidden Valley you will see students develop a curiosity about, knowledge of, and a sense of responsibility toward their learning, ideas, and the larger community. Buddy classes reading together, students collaborating on a design-thinking problem, flexible seating that allows student agency, and students quietly writing reflections with soft music in the background are common classroom sights.
What makes our school really special? Relationships. With approximately 340 students, only two or three classes per grade level, dedicated and skilled staff embrace the process of building relationships, making connections, and discovering how each student learns best. Students grow in an atmosphere where learning is both joyful and challenging, where teachers know them as individuals, and where they belong. A place that is safe to take risks, learn, grow, and contribute. Come join us!
First grade students explore gravity, force, and acceleration through designing a container that will allow an egg to safely fall from rooftop heights without breaking. 'Eggventions' combine problem solving skills with basic principles of engineering and physics. Eggvention Eggcitement for All!
In this 21st century learning simulation, business development blends several subjects in a multi-dimensional, engaging way. Students develop a deeper understanding of how the business world works as they develop their own business. Students discuss target market, develop a survey to determine shopper interests, analyze survey data and then design and develop a prototype.
We are thrilled to share with you our very first district video which was inspired and created by two of our RVSD parents, Nancy Main and Jennifer Gonzalez. This short film features several teachers and administrators as well as a number of students, each sharing their reflections on what makes RVSD special to them.
What brought you to Hidden Valley?
I live in Fairfax and I am returning to teaching after a few years home with my kids. I am so grateful for the opportunity to join the amazing Hidden Valley team this year!
What are your favorite things to do when you’re not at school?
I love to be outside... hiking, camping, snow skiing, swimming, and paddle boarding. My favorite thing to do is travel and explore new places. On these rainy days, I also enjoy reading and playing games (card games, board games, and chess :).
Tell us about your family and/or pets and how you spend time together.
My husband's name is Matt and we have two kids (Sammi - 5yrs. and Niko - 2 yrs.) We like taking walks around town or hopping on our new electric bike. We also love the beach and escaping to Tahoe.
What was your favorite subject in elementary school?
I LOVED reading and writing my own books.
What was the last book you read?
We just read "My Father's Dragon" (by Ruth Stiles Gannett) in my class. It was a fun adventure with lots of imagination.
Who was your favorite teacher as a child?
It's hard to pick just one :) I would say my third grade teacher, Mrs. G. She was very kind and she challenged us. She was also a lot of fun! She inspired me to become a teacher.
Ms. Da Cunha fun fact
Before becoming an elementary teacher, I taught scuba diving. After college, I lived on a sailboat in the British Virgin Islands and worked as a scuba instructor.
I have a passion for the ocean and all of the amazing life and beauty underwater.
