July 24, 2020 - RVSD Update 5: 2020-21 Schools Reopening Planning

Welcome to the weekend RVSD Families and Staff,

I want to thank all of you who were able to join us for yesterday’s virtual town hall meeting (as well as to all of you who have followed up to show your appreciation and support for all we are doing to get your kids back to school).  We really appreciate all of your thoughtful input, questions, ideas, and solutions as we plan for our schools’ reopening for the coming school year.  To access the recording, please visit https://youtu.be/uJnx2rCae38.  We went over time by about 15 minutes, so if you needed to leave and wish to view only the last 15 minutes, at which time we addressed questions that were submitted during the community meeting, then begin viewing at about minute 56.  I also want to acknowledge and appreciate Julia Wolcott, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, for facilitating with me; Sean Maher, Director of Information Technology, for ensuring we experienced no tech fails; Donna Faulkner, Wade Thomas Principal, for monitoring and uploading incoming emails during the meeting; Trustees Capron and Bauer for attending.

We could not be doing all of this heavy lifting to refashion our schools without our parents’/guardians’ and community’s, our principals’ and other administrators’, our teachers’ and staff’s, and all of our trustees’ unwavering care of and commitment to all of our RVSD family.

In our efforts to keep you informed, please know we are building a new page on our district website that will be dedicated to everything 2020-21 and anticipate having it ready shortly.  As for future updates, we hope you will join us at our next virtual Board of Trustees meeting on August 4.  And, we are looking forward to rolling out ParentSquare, our new teacher/parent/school/district communication platform.  In the meantime, as we receive new information, I’ll be back in touch.

Lastly, as we prepare for the new school year, please wear your face covering, practice social distancing, wash your hands, and have fun with your children as you teach and practice these personal and community health protocols.  The sooner we flatten the curve, the sooner we will reopen our schools and businesses and ensure the health of everyone in our community.  Thank you for doing your part!

We can do this!
