Dear 5th grade students,
It was wonderful seeing all of you during music class. I think that we are going to have a wonderful year as an orchestra.

Just a couple of reminders:
-Please make sure you read and get your music rubric signed. This is going to be stapled into your music book. This rubric tells you exactly what you need to get an good grade in the class!
-Also, make sure that you have a practice log. (See links at the end of this blog post.) This will also get stapled into your book! You are required to practice 30 minutes each week. This log needs to be initialed by your parents in order to get a stamp.

This weeks homework:
-Practice putting you instrument together! That means tightening your bow, putting on your shoulder rest (violins) taking out your end pin (cello). Practice resting position and playing position. When you are done practicing, remember to clean off your instrument and also to loosen your bow!

-Practice plucking (make a u shape with your hand and put your thumb on the finger board and your index finger on the string) on all of the 4 strings. Try to memorize each string name (E, A, D, G for violins) (A, D, G, C for cello)

-Practice bowing on all of the 4 strings. Practice long bows that go all the way from the frog to the tip!

-Lastly, practice #1 & #2 in the book
Violin Book: Essential Elements for Strings: Violin Book 1
Cello Book: Essential Elements for Strings: Cello Book 1
