5th Grade Orchestra Concert information

Here is the list of songs that we will be playing at the concert for our upcoming orchestra concert at White Hill.

6. Ode to Joy: #86
Again, out concert is on Wednesday, February 12 in White Hill's Gym. All 5th grade orchestra students need to be seated at 6:30 so that we have enough time to tune all of the instruments and practice together.

5th Grade Music T-Shirt Information

Please click here to purchase your child's music t-shirt
(Shirts will be delivered by the end of January, a few weeks before our evening concerts in February.)
T-SHIRT ORDERS are due by December 6th
5th grade student musicians are asked to wear a 5th grade music t-shirt with jeans or dark pants for our evening concerts this year. The requested donation is $10 per shirt.
PLEASE NOTE: The shirt design is the same as previous years. If your child is going to wear a purple music t-shirt that has been handed down by an older sibling or neighbor, please email Pete Santucci to let him know you do not need to purchase one. Thanks!

This weeks homework:
-Practice #23-32 in the book. #31 & #32 are the most important songs in the book! Practice these the most!!
-Baby Shark (not in the book, on a pink piece of paper)
-Orchestra Chant (not in the book, on a pink piece of paper)
-Correct Bow Hold, If you don't remember how to do a correct bow hold, go to page #7 in the book! (on a pencil, not on the bow this week)
-Brookside and Hidden Valley: Practice perfect bow holds at the balance point and practice Rosin Rap #1-3 (#37-39 in the book)
-Manor and Wade Thomas, we will get to the bow next week! Thank you for being great to the sub and for being so flexible!

Week 2 Homework:

This weeks homework:
-Practice #2-#10 in the book. If you can practice more, go all the way to #15!
-Practice putting you instrument together! That means tightening your bow, putting on your shoulder rest (violins) taking out your end pin (cello). Practice resting position and playing position. When you are done practicing, remember to clean off your instrument and also to loosen your bow!
-Practice plucking (make a u shape with your hand and put your thumb on the finger board and your index finger on the string) on all of the 4 strings. Try to memorize each string name (E, A, D, G for violins) (A, D, G, C for cello)

Welcome to the first Week of Strings Class!

It was wonderful seeing all of you during music class. I think that we are going to have a wonderful year as an orchestra.
Just a couple of reminders:
-Please make sure you read and get your music rubric signed. This is going to be stapled into your music book. This rubric tells you exactly what you need to get an good grade in the class!
-Also, make sure that you have a practice log. (See links at the end of this blog post.) This will also get stapled into your book! You are required to practice 30 minutes each week. This log needs to be initialed by your parents in order to get a stamp.

Today and tomorrow are our last rehearsals in class for our concert. We will be going over all of the songs we will be playing for the concert. Now, I will make sure that everyone has a copy of the song sheet during class time, but if for some reason you lose it, here is a link to download a copy of it.

Week #13: Concert information was sent home!

As you all know, we have our holiday sing- along concerts coming up soon. This week you should have received a green sheet with all of the information on it. Please read it over again with your parents. Like I mentioned in class, it is very unlikely that you will have your Music T-shirts by the concert date. If you DO get them, then you are to wear them with nice dark jeans or black pants. If not, then wear nice school clothes or dress up for the spirit dress up day (this only applies to some schools).
For our concert we will be playing the following songs: (PLEASE NOTE: Wade Thomas, I changed one of the songs AND I also changed the way we are playing them. Wade Thomas class will get a sheet on Wednesday with all of the information on it)
For our concert: The first song is Twinkle Twinkle. We will play the first two lines together, then groups will play, then we will play the last two lines together.
